Hemicentrotus pulcherrimus (A. Agassiz, 1864) is a species of sea urchin, an echinoid echinoderm in the family Strongylocentrotidae. Hemicentrotus pulcherrimus is the only member in the monotypic genus Hemicentrotus. Its range extends along the coasts of China, Japan and Korea. This sea urchin has a large number of tiny, fine, sharp spines. The name of this species either in Chinese or in Japanese means the “horse feces”, probably because it looks like horse feces when it is alive.
