Fully Etched Blue Green Fluorite Crystal from Xiayang Mines, Quanzhou, Fujian, China

These beautiful fully etched fluorite crystals are a new find from the Xiayang mines in Fujian, China. They started coming out in Feb. 2022. What makes these etched fluorite so special is not just their stunning etch marks, but also the fact that they are two-generation crystals. It is hard to tell with the naked eye but it becomes clear when placed under UV exposure. The “core”, or more accurrately, the first generation, is actually a highly UV-reactive dodecahedron typical of fluorites from the Xiayang mines. The second generation, however, is a thick layer of non-UV-reactive fluorite with those crazy etching on the surface. The core is completely encapsulated within the second generation.
